A Kings Langley councillor has described the village’s impending temporary name change to advertise a new DVD release as a "great opportunity" for the area.

Alan Anderson, who represents the village on Dacorum Borough Council, said changing its name to Kings Landing to mark the release of the new Game of Thrones series would put it on the map.

Kings Landing is the capital of the fictional kingdom in the historical fantasy HBO series.

The advertising stunt coincides with the release of the programme's third series.

Councillor Anderson said: "This re-naming is a great opportunity to put Kings Langley and Dacorum on the map. "You can't ignore the parallels between Kings Langley's own rich history and the themes in the show such as battling kings and warring families."

From Monday, February 17, the village’s two main signs will have their names changed to Kings Landing for a week.

Dacorum Borough Council said HBO would be footing the bill to have the signs changed and then put back.
