A height restriction barrier in Abbots Langley has been significantly damaged .
Hertfordshire Constabulary confirmed they are looking into the incident in the car park in Abbots Langley High Street, which is believed to have happened between 11.30am and 12pm yesterday.
Officers believe that a truck may have been involved in the collision, which has caused "substantial damage".
Tim Perkins, clerk to Abbots Langley Parish Council, said: "The barrier is built of high grade structural steel and the vehicle that struck it must have been travelling at a significant speed and would have sustained damage.
"It must have been a hell of a bang."
Sarah Spence, spokesman for Hertfordshire Constabulary, said: "Enquiries are being made by officers however, anyone who saw what happened or who has any information which could assist the investigation should contact the Herts Police non-emergency number 101."
