Local primary and secondary schools took part in environmental workshops on Thursday as part of an Abbots in Transition initiative to encourage local schools to work together on projects.

The event took place at Abbots Langley Primary School.

Rebecca Negrello, deputy head at Abbots Langley Primary School, said: "We attended an amazing day back in June at Breakspeare School, where children from local primary schools came together to do different environmental workshops. I was so inspired I decided to offer to host the next event here at Abbots School."

Children took part in a number of activities including blindfolded walks, pebble painting, planting bulbs and toasting marshmallows in the school’s forest area.

They also helped look after and feed the school’s chickens, as well as cooking and eating their eggs.

Rebecca said: "I was really excited because, for the first time, we managed to get all of our local primary schools to take part - Tanners Wood, Bedmond, Divine Saviour, St Pauls and Breakspeare. I was also delighted that both Parmiters and Francis Combe agreed to come along as well. The chairman of Three Rivers Council, Chris Lloyd, also attended.

"It was great to see children mixing with peers from different schools. The children loved meeting children from other schools as well as taking part in these activities. I'm looking forward to the next event already."
