A LOVE-SICK Watford Football Club fan asked his girlfriend to marry him on the condition the Hornets won on Tuesday - which they did.
Mr Paul Turner, 24, of Windsor Avenue, Uxbridge, rang his girlfriend, Jana Clements, 20, on his mobile during half time to pop the question.
Mr Turner, a manager at Sainsbury's supermarket in Uxbridge, said: 'I had visited Jana in Bristol at the weekend, and the subject of marriage was mentioned but not a lot was said.
'She's currently in her second year at university, studying politics and social studies, so she will be living there until 2002.
'When I spoke to her during half-time on Tuesday, I said, if we win tonight will you marry me? She said yes.
'The second half was particularly tense, and it looked as if the wedding bells were a long way off.
'But with five minutes of the match to go, Tommy Mooney changed my life.'
The Watford super-sub scored a penalty against Bolton at Vicarage Road stadium, pushing Watford to the top of the division.
Mr Turner said: 'It was the most fantastic feeling ever, not just because of the game but because of what I had said to Jana.
'I still feel like I am on cloud nine, and I can't believe it. We are very happy, and looking forward to the wedding.'
Mr Turner, a Watford fan for 13 years, added he would like to ask Tommy Mooney to keep the day of their wedding free.
