Four Roman coins believed to be around 2000 years old have been classified as treasure.
Hertfordshire Coroners Court ruled four silver coins, which were found in Three Rivers on Thursday, August 21, were treasure because they are more than 90 per cent silver and more than 300 years old.
They were found using a metal detector and the coins are believed to be from 69-79AD.
Edward Thomas, senior coroner, said: “The group of four Roman silver coins were Denarius [currency used in Ancient Rome].
“Three of them are believed to be from the late Roman Republic.
"All of the coins were silver, 90 per cent silver".
