It’s that time of year where it seems everyone’s trying to lose their wobbly bits in time for Christmas, so they can over indulge in food & drink while looking wonderful & gain their wobbly bits back again….….huh?
Anyway I purchased a DVD called Slim In 6. Now, due to the fact I have so many ailments the medical journal even have an extra page inserted just for me, I was impressed that I’d be able to take my time. Hoping the 6 meant 6 years was obviously a bit optimistic but Six months should just about do it…………….
I put the DVD on “Slim In 6” came up on the screen…..all good so far, then a tanned & toned woman appeared and flashed her ultra-white Hollywood smile before launching into “Congratulations on making this 6 week commitment ….”
Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! I leant back, foot to the floor like I was braking on some virtual peddle ……there were two things that had sent me into freak out mode, hearing 6 weeks, and the word commitment, in no particular order.
While I won’t entertain diets, I do like the idea of looking super fit, but why the rush? I prefer life at a more chilled pace with time to smell the roses (of the chocolate variety preferably) and as for commitment? I haven’t ended up Jurassic, manless and childless just for the fun of it….oh no hang on, that’s exactly why I’ve done it. ….That’s not to say I don’t do commitment, show me a cheesecake and I’ll sit for as long as it needs eating.
Back to the DVD, my first session didn’t work out as planned due to the fact it comes with a resistance band and some separate handles, and having broken out into a sweat trying to assemble it, I figured that was enough for one day. But all said and done it actually looks pretty good, so watch this space and I’ll keep you posted as to when the wobbly bits stop wobbling.
Onto Gizmo/Gadget/Gift of the week & some rather fetching Christmas jumpers have been popping up on social media & one that caught my eye was this one for £35 from “ In Music We Trust”
a company who started up in November 2014 http://www.inmusicwetrust.co.uk/ & who donate 50% of all profits to a charity who coincidentally I also support, the Depression Alliance http://www.depressionalliance.org/ Not being a Christmas jumper kinda woman though, I’ve just purchased a cool looking vest from them instead.
And if toilet humour is your thing & you like to warble while you wee then I’ve got just the thing, a toilet brush in the shape of a Microphone http://www.amazon.co.uk/Microphone-Toilet-Brush/dp/B00IOOQI46 available in black & white for £5.56
In M.E news, an update on my stepmum kates climb of Kilimanjaro as promised. For those that don’t know, to mark her 70th birthday next year Kate along with her sister & brother-in-law Mo 65 and Simon Cox 67 decided to take the 7 day Lemosho route to the top of Kilimanjaro. So how did it all begin?.....
My Cousin Donna who works out in Kenya and also runs the Adventure company had been on a stop- over at Heathrow and met up with Kate & my dad, after telling them all about it, Kates appetite was well and truly wetted.
She phoned her sister to say “This is probably going to sound crazy, but I’m going to climb Kilimanjaro”
Her sisters reply? “Not without me you’re not” and before they knew it all three were booked. While Kate had never attempted anything like this before, Mo & Simon are experienced Race walkers, in fact eight years ago they took part in the Nepal Annapurna walk a hard core walk that originally opened to foreign trekers in 1977 and was hit with disaster just last year when 43 people were killed in an avalanche including some of the Sherpas known to them both.
Back to kate, I asked her tell me about her experience of climbing Kilimanjaro and she said “ At first there was a mixture of excitement and apprehension, I was thinking to myself, what an earth are you doing? It really helped having Mo and Simon with me they were really encouraging, but six days in I didn’t think I was going to make it, my water bottles had frozen & I couldn’t breathe due to the altitude, There were three peaks and although we’d passed the first one I didn’t want to hold Mo & Simon back so I told them to go on & their guide Wisen travelled with them to the very top known as Uhuru peak .
I was determined to make it to the second peak though, there was just 100ft to go but it felt like I had absolutely nothing left to give, my two guides Stanley & Embongo stayed with me and really spurred me on every painful step of the way, I would’ve never made it without them, & four hours later exhausted but elated we reached Stella Point”
Were there any casualties?
I lost four toenails, and had a burnt lower lip, but apparently that’s common for those climbing Kili .
Apart from the personal achievement I was really chuffed by peoples support, even total strangers donated which helped raise £453.71 for Charity Invest In ME http://www.investinme.org/
& £405.00 for The Osteoporosis society https://www.nos.org.uk/
As for coming down I was so exhausted and my legs had got a bit wobbly, so I skidded and slid most of the way and ended up practically being carried down by my guides.
We met up with your dad Mike & Donna who’d bought champagne, and despite the exhaustion we still had a celebration, the guides were singing and we were all dancing, I think we were just running on adrenalin by then, a wonderful end to a wonderful experience and I’d urge anyone thinking of giving it a go to do it.
And any other adventures planned? “Never” ,laughed Kate. But knowing my step-mum I somehow doubt that.
