Triumphant trekkers celebrated raising £70,000 for Peace Hospice Care on an adventurous challenge to the peaks of Peru.

Following their return to Watford, the 18 strong team who followed the Inca trail to Machu Picchu, are looking back on their challenge and urging others to get involved with future fundraising adventures for the hospice.

Natasha Martins said: "Peace Hospice Care is a charity that is extremely close to my heart and many others.

"All would agree that the doctors and nurses there are actual angels so it is only right that we try to give something back."

While Pat Harris, who has recently been recovering from cancer, added: "I felt I needed a challenge and wanted to support the Peace Hospice as it offers such amazing care and compassion to everyone who goes there."

Peace Hospice Care events coordinator Claire Lyden thanked the group on their "incredible" effort.

She said: "The group was amazing, it was such a hard challenge.

"You really had to push yourself and be out of your comfort zone. The end is so rewarding. We truly appreciate everyone's individual effort for the hospice."

December 18 is the deadline to sign up for the next Peace Hospice Care challenge to Mount Toubkal and the Sahara Desert.

The Moroccan adventure, which will run from March 1 to March 9, is open to anyone with a general fitness level. Participants will need to raise £1,980 and will have support on the run-up to the trip with regular meetings, socials and pre-walks.
