Train fares will rise by almost two per cent next year, it was announced today.
A 1.9 per cent rise in regulated rail fares - including season tickets on most commuter journeys - will come into effect in January.
Some off-peak return tickets on long distance journeys and anytime tickets around major cities are also regulated.
The increase is linked to July's Retail Price Index measure of inflation, which was confirmed by the Office for National Statistics.
