A person has been killed after they were hit by a freight train near Hemel Hempstead station.
Watford Junction was brought to a standstill after the person was struck at around 2.30pm today.
Officers are now working to identify the victim and inform their family.
The death is currently not being treated as suspicious.
National Rail has warned passengers travelling from Clapham Junction and London Euston to expect severe delays after all lines between Watford Junction and Milton Keynes were blocked.
It said some Virgin or London Midland services could be cancelled or delayed by up to two hours, although some lines have now been reopened.
