I felt that I needed to respond to the letter ‘Better Off In EU’ from last week.

I used my referendum vote in June to register a personal opinion of where I saw the future relationship between my own country and Europe.

I would guess that many of those who voted in the same way as I did are tiring of being accused of ‘ill-judged reasoning’ and/or ‘swimming in a pool of ignorance’.

Just because one section of the electorate has taken a different view from another group does not give those that came second the right to belittle the opinion of others.

We are fortunate to live in a democracy and that is what was used in June to decide on the way forward, however short or long that period may be for individuals.

One of the deciding factors for me last year was that democracy was more valid in my own country than it is as part of a wider Europe.

Mr. Durham may feel better off in the EU but he cannot claim to speak on behalf of everyone else, nor should he assume that some others are less bright and able to voice opinions of their own.
