A new ticket machine will be introduced in Cassiobury Park car park on Monday to prevent commuters parking at the historic beauty spot all day.

The move will limit drivers to a maximum stay of six hours from Monday to Saturday during the operating hours of 10am to 6pm.

Watford Borough Council said parking at the site will remain free – all you have to do is collect a ticket and display it in your vehicle during the operating hours. The ticket will show your latest departure time.

The car park – located at the end of Gade Avenue – is meant for Cassiobury Park visitors only.

However, this restriction has historically been flouted by Metropolitan Line commuters arriving early and leaving their vehicles all day.

According to the council, this has prevented many genuine Cassiobury Park visitors from finding spaces of their own.

Civil enforcement officers will patrol the car park from Monday as a part of their routine duties.

Paul Rabbitts, head of parks for Watford Borough Council, said: “We’re delighted to introduce this new ticket machine before the opening of our amazing new paddling pools.

“Once this £2.8million splash park and Cassiobury Park hub development opens, we’re expecting lots more visitors. Come and enjoy some summer-time fun – they’ll be opening soon.”
