Showcasing town centre businesses and giving people a reason to visit Watford was the order of the day as the Watford Weekender came to town last week.

Shops, bars, clubs, restaurants, gyms and beauty salons in the town centre joined in the activities by offering discounts of up to 50 per cent.

And a brand new business, Fancy Dress Castle, opened its doors for the first time over the weekend.

The party and fancy dress shop, located near the pond in The Parade, brought stilt walkers, face painters and a live DJ to instil a party atmosphere on the day.

Chris Mee, 42, who has been running Fancy Dress Castle online for seven years, said: “It’s always been my ambition to have a shop on the High Street and this will be such a fun place for everyone to come shopping for their fancy dress and party products.

“We also have plans to be the main party room decorators in Watford for weddings, birthdays and all other special events.”

Created by Watford BID, the Watford Weekender offered free gym taster sessions, free club entry, dining discounts, live music entertainment and activities for children.

Maria Manion, chief executive of Watford BID, said: “Watford Weekenders are all about showcasing our town centre businesses and giving people even more reason to come and spend time here.

“There were great offers to be had in our shops and venues, and our restaurants were buzzing with diners taking advantage of up to 25 per cent discount.

“Families enjoyed free face painting, character appearances, free swimming, goody bags and treasure hunts. The fun continued into the evening with free cocktail masterclasses and nightclub entry.

“We look forward to working with businesses to make the next one even bigger and better.”
