A fundraising event for the victims of the recent London and Manchester terror attacks is being held in Kings Langley this weekend.

The Peace in the Park event is the brainchild of musician and stand-up comedian Dean Williams, who said he was struck by inspiration while watching the One Love Manchester concert, held in aid of the victims of the Manchester Arena bomb attack.

Following the success of the Manchester concert, Dean planned a free event in the grounds of the Hunton Park Hotel, in Essex Lane, on Sunday, with all proceeds going to a combined Red Cross fund for the London and Manchester victims

“I felt when I was watching the Manchester concert that everybody round here wanted to do something but didn’t know what to do. It’s snowballed so quickly,” he said.

“Without making it political, we just want to make a stand. It’s nice to do something positive.

“This is a chance for us to do something as a community, and music is a good way of getting to people.

“I think it is really important in these times that we need to stick together. We need to bind our communities even more. We have got to show solidarity.”

There are a maximum of 300 tickets available on the day on a first come, first served basis, with doors opening at 2.30pm. All tickets are free of charge.

People are free to bring cold food and picnic blankets but all hot food and drinks must be bought from the hotel.

As part of the afternoon, there will be live music from Dean’s band Dean Courtney and the Space Cowboys, as well as a short remembrance service in memory of those who died following the Westminster Bridge, Manchester Arena and London Bridge attacks.

Dean said that if Sunday was successful, he would seek to hold similar fundraising events every year from now on.
