A fire took place at a shop and police are appealing for information over the arson.
The fire was started between 1.30am and 1.50am on September 15 at the Tesco Express petrol station in Prestwick Road, South Oxhey, and it is believe the arsonists entered the car park and set light to several metal cages containing cardboard and plastic.
The flames then spread to nearby fencing panels before those who lit the fire attempted to extinguish it with fire extinguishers before they left the scene, but were unsuccessful.
DC Paul Burton, from the Three Rivers Local Crime Unit, said: "This was a deliberate and dangerous act that could have had serious consequences given the location.
"The fire service was called to extinguish the flames and luckily no one was injured as a result of the offender(s) actions."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Hertfordshire Constabulary on 101, quoting crime reference C3/17/1230, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
