A service station costing an estimated £90 million could offer as many as 340 full-time jobs.

In a document seen by the Watford Observer, motorway service operator Extra will offer more than 300 on-site roles at a site between Junction 16 and 17 of the M25.

The document also says the motorway service area will pay £1.5 million annually in business rates to the local council.

This latest proposal between Junction 16 and 17 follows hard upon rekindled plans by rival company Moto to build a similar site at Junction 20 in Kings Langley.

Both sites fall on Green Belt land.

Extra currently controls 180 acres of land west of the M25 and 60 acres to the east.

The document also suggests of the 340 full-time jobs 51 will be at a “senior level”. It also says a “variety” of skill levels will be needed, including 46.8 per cent requiring a level three qualification and 41.4 per cent at level two.

Up to 555 construction roles will also be available.

Extra Motorway Services held an "engagement workshop" at Chalfont St Peter Community Centre on October 23. But upon arrival, the Watford Observer was denied entry and told the meeting was by “invitation only”.

A public relations officer for Extra said invitations had been sent out to “politicians” and “certain members of the community” only.

We have since learned Extra are open to this newspaper attending future meetings.

Moto’s initial proposal includes a 100-bed hotel, a 1,000-space car park and shops and other facilities. A planning application is likely by the end of the year.

It is not yet known what Extra intend to build at the site near junction 17.
