Plans to convert a listed building into flats near a “dangerous junction” have concerned the chairman of a nearby residents association.

A developer has applied to build six flats in the grade II listed Ivy House, High Street, Bushey, as well as three town houses in Kemp Place.

Murray Lee has written to the planning department at Hertsmere Borough Council where he has outlined “serious issues” in the area over parking and traffic, adding that “many a time, he has almost hit a car”.

He said: “I whole-heartedly object to this application. There is already the danger of unpatrolled parking on double yellow lines as well as pedestrians and traffic coming in and out of Kemp Place.

“Cars parked right at the junction and directly by Ivy House is extremely dangerous as there is the bus stop to the left as you exit Kemp Place and when buses stop, there are problems over visibility. More housing and traffic will only add to this issue.”

Mr Lee has also raised concerns over the junction of Kemp Place and Montague Hall Place as well as the car park.

He added that at weekends, parking is becoming “incredibly hard” and often cars are left on blind corners, and sometimes he says he is unable to park near his own home.

Eight parking spaces have been proposed but Mr Lee says that in “this day and age”, will not provide enough parking for nine homes.

He added that planning officers should look at the “whole picture” when reviewing the application.
