Further to Andy Love’s letter (We need new hospital, Letters, January 25), yes, Watford General Hospital is the sole A&E for West Herts. All the more reason then for investment.

Yes, there is a population explosion in Watford - a deafening case for more funding to be forthcoming.

On the one hand, the Government wallows in the proceeds from the extra council tax revenues from the burgeoning population. But are reluctant to spend the money in funding the vital infrastructure to support the growing need.

The said health campus was used as political leverage to instate the link road. The road was built and the surrounding land opened up for development. But apparently there is no money for the hospital.

Where has all the money gone?

What happened to the proceeds from the land sold off to developers along Thomas Sawyer Way to build warehouse city and housing?

As usual, it’s a case of raking in on one hand, and handing over public assets to the private sector in the other without giving something back.

The authorities, awash with cash, daydream about what they can do with the space around the library in the next project, public cash burning in their pocket.

Watford is supposedly the richest town in Hertfordshire. Why can’t it have in the very least a revamped A&E unit in the very least?

Perhaps, yes, as per the guidance, a little less sleeping through long meetings and a little more action.
