A shisha lounge could open at Bushey Country Club.

A planning proposal has been submitted for a restaurant, The Doctor Steakhouse, and shisha lounge at the site in Bushey – which is largely vacant after the golf club shut down last year.

If passed, the Turkish and Mediterranean grill restaurant will be led by a celebrity chef who has been trained by Nusret Gokce, a Turkish butcher, chef, and restaurateur who owns a chain of steakhouses. He's perhaps more famously known as ‘Salt Bae’ because he shares videos of himself theatrically adding seasoning to his dishes.

It will be set over two floors with views over the former golf course.

Alongside the restaurant will be a hookah lounge. Shisha smoking is a way of smoking usually flavoured tobacco through a tube or hose.

There are shisha lounges across Watford and Stanmore.

An events management company, SMM, has taken over ownership of the country club while long term vision of the site is decided. SMM have been involved in these proposals put forward.

The Hertsmere Borough Council-owned club was closed in April last year for financial reasons.

A café at the country club, which closed as well, reopened last week.

The planning application, which can be found here, will be considered by Hertsmere Borough Council.
