AN appeal in The Watford Observer from a woman looking for people to come forward as egg donors has yielded six telephone calls.

The woman, who can only be named as Louise, said that after her appeal in April six women came forward asking for more information.

Louise said that although she was remarkably uplifted and encouraged, the success was bittersweet as none of the six women have called back to take the matter further.

Louise said: "It's wonderful to think that women are prepared to learn more about egg donation. I am thrilled at the people who responded.

"But it's also very disappointing that they have not got back in contact yet.

"Hopefully, more women will come forward and donate eggs because there is a long waiting list after me.

"The more women that do it the more women they help become mothers.

"I would say to those who are thinking about it please do it.

"And if those people who called up do not want to do it maybe there are others who will."

Louise first made an appeal in The Watford Observer because for six years she and her husband have been trying to have a baby.

The couple have tried IVF and other treatments and now getting a donated egg is their only chance.

Louise, whose identity cannot be disclosed as donors must not know to whom they are donating, is desperate for someone to come forward and help them and other potential mothers.

Those who would be eligible to donate eggs are women under 35 who have already had children of their own.

In Britain £15, the same for a sperm donation, is given to the donor for an egg. In America women can sell their eggs for thousands of dollars but British legislation does not allow it in the UK.
