Sky has officially submitted its plans for a state-of-the art TV and film studios in Borehamwood.

On December 3, the media giants announced it had identified a site off Rowley Lane for a huge 32-acre studio - which could bring 2,000 jobs to the area and a £3 billion investment in the UK's production company.

A little over three months later and the exact plans Sky Studios Elstree have now been released.

The scheme, which would put Borehamwood at the heart of the UK's TV and film scene, comes with 12 sound stages on land just off the A1.

Borehamwood Times:

The scheme is backed by Sky’s new owner Comcast and in partnership with sister-company NBCUniversal.

Satellite images and CGI's help provide a picture of what the scheme will look like, if approved.

Alongside the sound stages will be two production support buildings and five production buildings.

The plans also come with a 1,000 capacity multi-storey car park, as well as 180 cycling spaces and 50 motorcycle spaces.

A new access road would be created to the west of the site from Rowley Lane, next to the existing Rowley Lane junction by Premier House.

Borehamwood Times:

The studios would be open 24 hours a day and seven days a week.

The development site, owned by Legal & General, has been identified by Hertsmere Borough Council as suitable for employment while Sky says in its planning statement that meetings have already taken place with senior council members and the leader of the council, Morris Bright, to discuss the scheme.

Sky says there is a demand for a facility like this on the edge of London.

Borehamwood Times:

Two public consultations took place in Borehamwood in January but now is the main opportunity to take a look at the plans and give your opinion.

A detailed planning application can be found here or by searching planning reference number 20/0315/FULEI on the council's planning portal.

Subject to planning permission, the studios could open in 2022.
