- Yesterday, the British public received the unsurprising news that lockdown measures will be extended for another three weeks.
- ------
- Although there is cause for optimism that the curve may be flattening, the government has decided the safest course of action is to continue with the social distancing measures in place.
- ------
- Dominic Raab said the measures, which we have all come accustomed to in the last three weeks, will last for at least another three weeks, before the situation is reviewed again.
- ------
- At West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust, five further deaths have been announced today, taking the number of coronavirus-related fatalities at the trust to 143.
- ------
- In news this morning, London mayor Sadiq Khan said he is lobbying government to change its advice on wearing face coverings to add "another layer of protection" to members of the public.
- ------
- He said: "Wearing a non-medical facial covering makes it less likely you may inadvertently give somebody else Covid-19". and he wants the idea rolled out across the country.
- ------
- But Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has already told BBC Breakfast, after Mr Khan's comments, that there is evidence that wearing masks on public transport " could be counterproductive". He said it would be "right" to ask scientists to provide guidance on it.
- ------
- Meanwhile, Health Secretary Matt Hancock will face questions from MPs today over the Government's coronavirus response.
- ------
- Mr Hancock is expected to be quizzed on PPE and an exit strategy as he appears before a virtual session of the Commons Health Committee.
