Torrential rain reportedly forced one of Watford's biggest supermarkets to temporarily shut today.

Shoppers reported that staff at Tesco in Waterfields Shopping Park had to close the store after water began coming through the ceiling during heavy rainfall.

Some areas have been, and continue to be, hit by thunderstorms and heavy rain showers.

One person on social media has said rain was pouring through Tesco's ceiling at around 1.30pm today.

Another person said the shop was evacuated.

Other retail shops in Waterfields may also be affected and there are reports too of flooding in nearby Water Lane.

A Tesco spokesman has confirmed the shop has now reopened.

Other pictures today show flooding on the A41 in North Watford.

There is a yellow weather warning in place overnight for thunderstorms and heavy rain across Hertfordshire.

The Met Office is currently forecasting thunder and lightning in the Watford area shortly before midnight, with heavy rain for the rest of the night and continuing into the morning.
