A life-long Watford supporter who was pictured leaving hospital after successfully battling coronavirus has now sadly died.

Ivy Scott, 96, passed away at her nursing home, two weeks after a two month stay at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore.

Mrs Scott was applauded when she left hospital at the end of May, with Watford FC and club legend Luther Blissett both recognising her remarkable recovery.

She was staying in a nursing home but her family say she was not her usual "lively and bubbly" self, despite her recovery.

Mrs Scott's family have confirmed she died on June 11 with doctors recording her death as old age.

Watford Observer:

Her granddaughter, Helen Craddock, has paid tribute to her nan who she describes as the "backbone of her family".

"Nan was a hero to all of us. We spent a lot of time with her and grandad growing up.

"She was so lively, vivacious, and full of life. She was so bubbly and positive, I never saw her sad or angry."

Mrs Scott was admitted to hospital in the spring after a fall. While she was in hospital, she tested positive for coronavirus, but she did not display any symptoms, except tiredness.

Ms Craddock says her nan tested positive for two months and at one stage, she was put in end-of-life care.

But Mrs Scott shocked doctors when she suddenly woke up and began talking to them.

Ms Craddock said: "Nan has always been incredibly healthy. She put up such a fight in hospital. We expected her to pass away in hospital.

"When she came out, she wasn't the same and her dementia was advancing. Her death certificate said old age."

Mrs Scott, who lived in Kings Langley, is one of Watford's biggest fans.

She watched the Hornets live for at least 50 years and her heroes were Luther Blissett, John Barnes, and Graham Taylor.

Mr Taylor's widow, Rita, wrote a card for Mrs Scott when she celebrated her 96th birthday in May while in hospital.

After Mrs Scott's death was announced, Luther Blissett tweeted: "Goodnight Ivy Scott Yellow heart RIP dear lady. What a wonderful inspiration you have been capturing hornet hearts. You have taken your place alongside the great man on that @WatfordFC golden bench above".

Ms Craddock says she and her family have been "overwhelmed" by the tributes since her nan's passing.

She said: "The club, Luther, everyone, the support we have been given is outstanding. The messages we've had, we're completely overwhelmed.

"Nan was the backbone of our family. She had so many friends. She will be greatly missed."
