A PROLIFIC shoplifter has been jailed after stealing from a supermarket.

Ian James Riddick appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court to be sentenced for the latest in a string of convictions for shoplifting.

The 40-year-old pleaded guilty to taking items worth a total of £159 from the Co-op in Dalton on April 22.

He also admitted to stealing Alien and Angel perfumes from Asda in Barrow worth £104 on June 27 and returning the next to steal Vera Wang, Jimmy Choo and DKNY perfumes worth £200 in total.

The defendant, of Gleaston Avenue in Barrow, was sentenced to a total of 84 days behind bars.

The court heard the offence was aggravated by the defendant being on bail and his previous convictions.

He was jailed for 16 weeks in May for stealing alcohol an mobile phones.
