Heavy showers and thunderstorms are predicted to hit Hertfordshire over the course of the weekend.

The Met Office has extended a yellow weather warning for parts of the UK – including Hertfordshire – which is in place from today (Friday) until Monday evening.

According to the forecaster, the weather could be severe enough to lead to the possibility of flooding and travel disruption.

On Wednesday afternoon, several roads were flooded across the county because of heavy rainfall – and Watford Borough Council temporarily closed Cassiobury Park because of fallen trees.

Watford Observer:

Hempstead Road was flooded on Wednesday

The Met Office has warned the following:

  • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater or lightning strikes, possibly also by hail or strong winds
  • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
  • There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
