Hello, my name is Smidge and I’m an 11-month-old ‘skinny pig’. I’ve just arrived at the National Animal Welfare Trust after I didn’t get on with the other skinny pig in the family.

We skinny pigs are ideal for anyone dealing with allergies, thanks to our small amount of hair. My breed means I need extra care so I will need an experienced guinea pig or skinny pig owner. I need coconut oil rubbed into my skin once a week to keep it in good condition and, having no hair, I can get sunburnt.

With no fur to keep me warm, I need to live indoors in a cosy room with heating, and with another male skinny pig or guinea pig for company. My enclosure needs to have plenty of fleece blankets and hiding places to keep me warm and comfortable.

Watford Observer:

I’m a friendly boy but can be a little bit nervous until I get to know you. I love my food and will sing ‘the song of our people’ when it’s veggie time.

Typically, we guinea pigs live for five or six years, but with good care can live longer.

I’m looking for a home with adults or families with children of any age but because my skin is sensitive and I’m a wriggly boy, only grown-ups should handle me.

If you can give me a good home, call the NAWT on 020 8950 0177 (option 2) to arrange a visit.
