The South Circular was blocked this morning after an object apparently fell off the back of a lorry.
The incident took place under a railway bridge near Verdant Lane, in the Hither Green area at around 6am.
The much-used road was both ways partially blocked, with traffic jams forming as far back as Clifton's Roundabout.
