Watford is becoming a more attractive place to live - and at a time when Londoners are wanting to move out of the capital.

If you are a home owner looking to sell, you might be interested in knowing just how popular Watford is, with the town sitting just outside the city.

Rightmove has revealed Watford has seen a 65 per cent surge in searches in a year - from October 2019 to the same month this year.

And the average asking price in October was £428,894.

Despite this, the town's popularity might pale compared to other areas in Hertfordshire.

The property website could not disclose numbers for all areas in the county, but not too far away in St Albans, the city's popularity has grown 80 per cent. The average asking price there was £596,491.

And the area with the largest popularity growth in Hertfordshire is Welwyn Garden City, which saw an increase in buyer searches of 94 per cent. It has an average asking price of more than £700,000.

The four other places in Hertfordshire with the biggest increase in searches are Ware, Potters Bar, Bishop's Stortford and Royston
