People have been told to avoid a busy area due to a gas leak.

An incident is ongoing at the Dome Roundabout by Asda on the outskirts of Watford.

Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue tweeted they were made aware of a suspected gas leak at 4.40am.

Cadent, which manages the local gas network, said it has found a leak on a pipe that runs underneath the A41 and that teams are working to fix it.

The roundabout is partially closed on the Asda side with no access into St Albans Road towards north Watford.

There is also no access from the A41 from Asda onto the Dome Roundabout.

A traffic camera at the Dome Roundabout shows highway vehicles blocking off a section of road.

Watford Observer:

A spokesman for Cadent said: "We had reports of a smell of gas in the area and have found a leak on a pipe that runs underneath the A41, near The Dome roundabout. Our teams are on site now working to fix this. We’ve had to close the road - northbound only - to do that safely. Access is available to all shops and businesses in the local area. Follow the diversion signs. We appreciate everyone’s patience while we get this done.

"If anyone smells gas in the local area, it’s very important to report that immediately to the national gas emergency number 0800 111 999. Don’t assume it’s related to this - it may not be and we must investigate it."

It is unclear how long the closure will be in place for but work was still ongoing at 4.50pm.
