The Sage scientists have recommended a gap of 12 weeks between first and second doses of the Covid-19 vaccines. This compares to a maximum gap of six weeks recommended by the World Health Organisation and adopted by some European countries.

The Sage scientists seem to have relied on data for other illnesses and vaccines in the absence of like data for the present pandemic vaccines. The question arises, will the first dose of any of the present vaccines still be as effective at the end of the gap period? The answer seems to be ‘we hope so’.

I hope so too, otherwise we may have to go through the whole procedure again with more deaths, pressures on NHS and lockdowns.
