A charitable 8-year-old ran 25 miles in seven days to raise money for Watford General hospital staff.

Archie Little, 8, decided to fuel his lockdown boredom as motivation to not only get active, but also to help out hardworking NHS staff.

After his mum suggested that he runs in the garden to combat his boredom, Archie brought along the idea to run for charity, and his mum suggested that supporting the West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust would be best during the pandemic.

And over ten days starting from January 12, Archie began to run and received over £530 of donations.

Now his mother Jenna Hayford is helping to compile around 200 care packages of requested essentials for NHS workers in Covid wards.

She said: “He (Archie) is a very giving child, every time we go out when he sees a homeless person, he always wants to give them money, or buy them something to eat.

“Watford are obviously very overworked at the moment and I know they are crying out for bits and bobs, so I thought it would be nice to give them something seeing as they’re giving to the public.”

Talking about her reaction to Archie’s idea, she said: “I’m very proud of him that he wanted to help others and not just be for himself. I couldn’t be more proud of him, he’s a bit of a naughty child, so for him to go out and do something like that was really brilliant.”

While Archie has completed his 25 mile runs, the fundraiser is continuing for a while longer before the care packages are delivered to the NHS Trust. To donate visit: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/jenna-hayford
