Rickmansworth Aquadrome has been temporarily shut in response to safety concerns to recent flooding incidents.

The Aquadrome was fenced off over the weekend at some of the most affected and flooded areas, but Three Rivers District Council reports some people ignored the measures in place.

In response, the Aquadrome will be shut from today (February 1), and will reopen once the area is deemed safe to reopen.

The temporary closure includes the car park and the Ebury play area.

Cllr Sarah Nelmes, leader of Three Rivers District Council, said: “Prompt action was taken over the weekend by council officers to fence off the worst affected areas, but regrettably some visitors ignored this and removed the safety measures we had in place.

“This leaves us with no option than to close the park in order to ensure the safety of the public which, of course, is always our absolute priority.

“I know this will be disappointing to many people who rely on the park for exercise, but our teams are working hard to alleviate the flooding.

“We will put out further messages on our website and social media once the Aquadrome is safe to reopen.”

The Environment Agency has issued another red flood warning today (February 1) for the River Colne – and residents have been “strongly urged to take action now”.

The red flood warning covers parts of the river closest to the Moneyhill area of Rickmansworth, Maple Cross and Batchworth.

An amber flood alert has also been issued for the River Colne for the rest of Rickmansworth and in Watford.
