Gritters are set to be out in force again across Hertfordshire this evening as wintry weather conditions take hold across the county.

Hertfordshire County Council says it is planning on sending the gritters out for another run tonight (February 8) with the winter weather “still not letting up”.

It comes despite gritter teams spreading 1,800 tonnes of grit across 9,000 miles of Hertfordshire roads between Saturday and lunchtime today.

The council said on twitter: “#GritterTwitter. Winter weather still not letting up, so we are planning another run this evening and keeping a close eye on the weather overnight in case we need to go out again.”

The farmers have also been mobilised should the council need to work in partnership with them and use any snow ploughs.

Some parts of Watford have seen a dusting of snow today with a bit more settling in rural areas around the town.

However, a yellow weather warning remains in place for the town for the rest of today (Monday), tomorrow, and Wednesday.

A message on the Met Office’s website for the yellow warning for snow, which stretches across much of England, states: "Frequent snow showers may lead to travel disruption in places. Some places are likely to miss the showers altogether."
