A life-long Hornet paid his final visit to Vicarage Road stadium.

Michael Molyneux, 65, also known as ‘Mole’, was a programme seller and steward at Watford FC and supported the Golden Boys since the age of three.

His funeral took place on Tuesday (February 23) as the funeral procession passed Vicarage Road for his final visit.

Luther Blissett has been helping the family by launching a JustGiving page for donations to be made for Watford FC’s Community Sports and Education Trust.

In a statement issued by the family, they wrote: “Luther (Blissett) and some of his friends were there to send him on his final journey, many wearing WFC colours.

“His sister, Caroline plus friends Steve Price and Andy Hammond paid tribute to him with some memorable anecdotes from their time together.”

“The Z-Cars theme tune and Elton John’s 'Funeral For a Friend’ were played at the service as per Mole’s wishes."

The family continued: “Mole was an attention seeker so he would have loved the kind words, messages, and memories that have flooded in for him.

“The family would like to give a special mention to Luther, Lauren, Dave and Tamora from WFC for their kind support at this time and to all those who have donated to WFC Community Trust in Mole’s memory.”

Following the service, Blissett wrote on Facebook: “This morning on behalf of the Former Players Club I joined Caroline, Mole's sister - and family to bid him a farewell, to say thank you for all he did for us and see him on his way to the golden bench.

“As you can see, what an occasion full of character it was, as befits a man who has been seen as part of Watford's colourful history his entire life! From helping Graham launch the original travel club … “to organising fans to away days far and wide.

“So many of you have shared stories which have all been passed to his family to treasure. They did him proud today his own ‘golden travel club’ waiting by the Boss.”
