Two police officers have been awarded after a rescuing a man who went into cardiac arrest.

In February last year, PC Ryan Proudlock and PC Thomas Coulton attended an incident outside the YMCA in Watford, to concerns for the welfare of a man.

At the scene, the man in cardiac arrest was cold to the touch and unresponsive as he was not breathing.

The officers cleared his airway and began CPR until the paramedics arrived.

But before he was rushed to hospital, the officers continued to give CPR while the ambulance service administered life-saving treatment.

The man then made a full recovery and was discharged from hospital a few days later.

The officers said: “Working on the Intervention team means you never quite know what incidents you are going to be called to, and this shows that sometimes, you could be required to save a life. We are so pleased the man made a full recovery and wish him all the best.”

A few weeks later after the incident, PC Proudlock met the man and was thanked for the heroic actions.

The two officers have now received Royal Humane Society awards for their quick-thinking actions.
