A busy junction has been partially closed after a traffic light was damaged in a crash.

Highways officers have restricted some access on the A405 in Bricket Wood following an incident this morning.

It's not yet clear exactly what happened but a badly damaged traffic light was left lying at the side of the road.

At the moment, none of the traffic lights at the junction - called Waterdale - are in operation, which includes the pedestrian signals.

The right hand lane on the A405 from the direction of Garston, which either allows driver to loop or head onto the M1 southbound has been temporarily shut off ,with highways vehicles, signage, and cones blocking access.

Any drivers wanting the M1 southbound or Bricket Wood, via Mount Pleasant Lane, have no option but to continue on the A405 up to the roundabout at junction 21A for the M25, before coming back on themselves.

During this morning's rush hour, traffic on the A405 from Chiswell Green towards the M25 seemed slower than normal, not just because schools were back, but potentially because there was more traffic on the M25 roundabout because of the closure on the A405.

Hertfordshire County Council has been approached for further details about this morning's incident and when the junction will be fully reopened.

Police said they did not have reports of any incidents on this section of A405 within the last 24 hours.
