The potential future of a former country club site could become clearer next week.

Hertsmere Borough Council will host a virtual public meeting where it will update the community on a proposal for Bushey Country Club.

The site closed as a country club in April 2018 for financial reasons and when the closure was announced, it prompted huge concern among the Bushey community with an "unprecedented" number of people attending a meeting at the club in January 2018 to demand answers about what lay ahead for the future of the land.

Since then, the site has been leased to a weddings and events firm, while a restaurant has also opened.

The virtual session at 7pm on March 18 will review the background to the council asset and also recap on Bushey Country Club Consultation Group’s activities.

Council leader Morris Bright said: "The main aim with the session is to update the local community and to continue listening to views by seeking opinions on an outline proposal for the site.

"This will augment the work already undertaken by the Bushey Country Club Consultation Group, which has both community and cross-party political representation."

There will also be a presentation on Hertsmere’s local plan process to set some context around future planning for the borough, including Bushey.

There will be opportunities for the public to ask questions about the local plan and Bushey Country Club.

The session will be hosted in partnership with community organisation Bushey Forum.

Chairman of the Bushey Forum, Philip Nowlan, said: "Since the closure of the club, the Bushey Forum has tried to ensure that its members and the wider Bushey community have been kept abreast of any information with regard to this site.

"This online meeting will be the third event we’ve chaired where this has been the main topic for discussion. We encourage all residents to join the session or watch the recording afterwards, and submit any questions and comments they may have.”
