A new testing site for key workers with no coronavirus symptoms is up and running in Watford town centre.

The site offers free rapid tests to members of the public, and the tests are able to tell someone if they unknowingly have Covid, within an hour of taking the test.

The testing centre has been set up in The Parade, by the pond, but any visits must be booked on the Hertfordshire County Council website.

Rapid testing has been operating across Hertfordshire since January and it is one of the most vital ways of limiting the spread of coronavirus.

Who is eligible for a rapid test and how do I book one?

Primarily, the testing is aimed at key workers and people who cannot work from home.

It is vital anyone booking a rapid test does not have any of the three main Covid symptoms, and is over the age of 16.

Appointments can be booked up to seven days in advance and bookings must be made on the council website.

Rapid testing will be available in The Parade everyday up until at least March 28, with slots available to book online between 8.45am and 7.45pm - although slots disappear, as the system operates on a first come first served basis.

What happens at the testing centre?

Anyone who has booked to have a rapid test in The Parade, or at any other rapid testing location in Hertfordshire, will be asked to register upon arrival and have their booking information to hand.

A person will be then taken through to the testing area, and then a person will swab their throat and nose, with supervision from a trainer professional.

Once the swab has been submitted, a person can leave the centre, and wait for a text or email confirming whether they are infectious with Covid or not.

The county council says the tests are more than 70 per cent accurate.

Where else can I get a test?

Rapid testing is also available at Three Rivers House in Rickmansworth on March 19, 22, 26, and 30, as well as at Bushey Country Club on March 21 and 27.

Bookings for these sites must be made on the council website.

A full list of testing sites can also be found on the website.
