A school has announced that it will offer extended lessons over Easter and summer to make up for lost time after prolonged school closures.

St Margaret’s School in Bushey will continue with give the option for all pupils across Years’ 1 to 8 to continue with extra classes during the holiday period.

The Easter school will take place in line with current social distancing guidance, while a six-week summer school which should follow the more ‘relaxed’ rules – if restrictions allow it - will take place from July 12.

While much of the extra classes will be used to emphasis and boost social time, the summer school will particularly offer booster sessions to fill in any gaps and improve confidence in anything academically missed over the lockdown period.

A range of creative arts, outdoor learning and sporting activities will be offered to pupils, as well as swimming crash courses over the summer.

Head at St Margaret’s School, Lara Péchard, said: “We are keen to do everything we can to help pupils regain some sense of continuity with their learning.

“For some, remote learning was a breeze, while for others, they will have struggled in a variety of different ways. The focus of these extra sessions will be on giving children back some of the things they have missed.

“Whether that is sports, art, music or maths, children will benefit from the additional provision at a time when few, if any recreational holidays will be possible. We hope it will help our new joiners starting in September too.”

The school is also running a range virtual workshops during the first three days of the Easter holidays for pupils in Years’ 7-9 covering drama and a robotic computer coding and song writing session, led by actor Layton Williams.
