A TV presenter and radio personality has opened up about his battle with depression saying it was a “dark period” in his life.

Will Njobvu, who is from Rickmansworth, made these comments on his Saturday morning radio show on Capital XTRA.

The Masked Singer: Unmasked host started off by praising his fellow Capital radio colleague Roman Kemp on his powerful BBC Three documentary Our Silent Emergency about men’s mental health and then went on to speak about his own experiences.

The 26-year-old told his radio show listeners: “You might not know this but I’ve actually been through depression before in my life and it was a dark period - most of which I don’t remember but I do remember that every time someone checked up on me it just lifted my spirits. I can’t explain how or why but it just worked. So let’s focus on lifting up those around us.”

Will Njobvu spoke about seeking help for anxiety

In January, Njobvu revealed to his fans on Twitter that he “reached out for professional help” to treat his anxiety saying he “feels so much better.”

“Yes, even me who is always jolly and entertaining people has panic attacks. Speaking to someone makes all the difference,” he told his Twitter followers.

In England, around one in eight men has a common mental health problem such as depression, anxiety, panic disorder or obsessive compulsive disorder - with three times as many men as women dying by suicide, according to The Mental Health Foundation.
