Traffic using two of Watford’s busiest roads is set to be disrupted after orders were approved to temporarily close parts of them while roadworks take place.

A notice from Hertfordshire County Council in this week’s edition of the Watford Observer details the closures to sections of Whippendell Road and Radlett Road, with the orders effective from Monday.

Whippendell Road will be closed from its junction with Hagden Lane south eastwards for a distance of approximately 25m to allow for water connection works.

The order will come into force on Monday and last for up to 18 months, but the restrictions will only be in force at times indicated by road signs.

This will also apply for the order that has been approved for the closure of part of Radlett Road while nearby vegetation is removed.

It will affect the length of the road from its junction with Queens Road north eastwards and south eastwards for a distance of approximately 160 metres.

Proposals have also been published to temporarily suspend a width restriction in another road in Watford while utility works are taking place.

The county council is proposing to suspend the restriction in Woodmere Avenue from its junction with Douglas Avenue north eastwards for a distance of approximately 45 metres.

If approved, the order will take effect from April 12 and last for up to 18 months, but it will only be in force at times shown on road signs at or near the road.

An order is also being sought to temporarily prevent traffic from using St Georges Road/Fuller Road from a point 55 metres north of its junction with Maude Crescent north eastwards and north westwards for a distance of approximately 93 metres.

These restrictions are set to take effect from April 14 and are needed for sewer cleaning works.

There are also further plans to introduce temporary traffic management measures in Bushey, Woodside, Watford, Aldenham and Radlett while works carried out.

These restrictions include a temporary 40mph speed limit and no waiting at any time and will affect large parts of the A41 and the B462 Hartspring Lane/Radlett Road/Aldenham Road.
