Cassiobury Park paddling pools will reopen from Monday but will operate with a one-in one-out system.

Tomorrow, (Monday, March 29) Government rules restricting social contact and businesses are being eased.

The 'Rule of six' will allow people to meet outdoors again while outdoor sport and leisure will be resumed.

In line with the new rules, Watford Borough Council is reopening the paddling pools at Cassiobury Park, allowing a maximum of 100 people – including parents and guardians – within the area at any one time.

A council spokesperson said: "With the predicted high number of people visiting the enclosed paddling pools and one in three people with the virus not showing symptoms, these restrictions are still critical to protecting the community, particularly with the more infectious Covid-19 strains.

"Working on the one-in, one-out principle, people will be allowed within the gated area in two-hour slots as space becomes available. One gate for the paddling pools will be kept open and will be controlled by marshals, with signage in place across the park and paddling pools explaining the new rules to park users."

Every two hours, the paddling pools will be deep-cleaned for 30 minutes by staff.

The paddling pools will be open from 10am to 6.30pm and will follow this schedule:

  • 10am to 12noon – open
  • 12noon to 12.30pm – closed for deep clean
  • 12.30pm to 2.30pm – open
  • 2.30pm to 3pm – closed for deep clean
  • 3pm to 5pm – open
  • 5pm to 5.30pm – closed for deep clean
  • 5.30pm to 6.30pm – open

Paul Rabbitts, head of parks, said: “We recognise how important parks are for people’s daily exercise and general wellbeing and we are fortunate that Watford has so many great parks and outdoor spaces for people to visit. With lockdown being eased, taking this step means people can still enjoy the paddling pools in Cassiobury Park, but we must do all we can to make sure it is safe and that people are not risking their health or that of others.”
