A man has been charged with several driving offences after a police chase ended in a head-on crash near Hemel Hempstead.

Officers attempted to stop a vehicle on the A41 on Thursday, March 25, around 12.05am after police intelligence systems indicated that the owner of the vehicle was wanted for offences in another area.

“The driver allegedly failed to stop and a pursuit ensued,” a Hertfordshire Constabulary spokesperson said.

Police said the vehicle was brought to a tactical stop on the M1, near to junction 8.

A picture posted on social media shows the front of both vehicles badly damaged and facing each other on the carriageway.

The police officers were taken to hospital but no one was seriously injured.

Johnny Jude, 28, from Barnet, appeared at Stevenage Magistrates’ Court on Friday, March 26. He was charged with:

  • Failing to stop for police
  • Driving a vehicle dangerously
  • Driving whilst uninsured
  • Criminal damage
  • Theft
  • Common assault.

He was remanded into custody and will appear at St Albans Crown Court on Monday, April 26.
