A police cordon has been set-up in woodland at a park as officers investigate a serious assault.

Hertfordshire Constabulary says it was reported that someone was attacked in wooded area near to Radlett Road Playing Fields, Watford, on Wednesday.

The female victim is currently being supported by officers.

A photo sent to the Watford Observer this morning shows a cordon in place at the playing fields with a police officer at the scene.

The county’s police force says people can expect to see an increased police presence as investigations are carried out.

Detective Constable Caroline Niwaz said: “I know that news of this incident will cause concern among the local community and I would like to reassure you that officers are working hard to identify those responsible for this assault. While this work is on-going you can expect to see an increased police presence in the local area.
