I’m a little incensed we’ve started to get leaflets through the door which can only be warming people up for the May election. Is this fair? It’s fine for the incumbent as they are telling people their news, but it does not offer a level playing field for those who wish to take the brave decision and run against them. I believe they are not permitted to post leaflets until officially approved as candidates.

One such leaflet showed Cllr Giles-Medhurst. He had taken a selfie standing in front of the pavement at Wiggenhall Road. He is claiming the result for having the pavement installed. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the whole development, the building of Tom Sawyer Way was a Liberal Democrat initiative, with Mayor Thornhill claiming it would protect our hospital.

Therefore one would expect Mr Medhurst to be fully aware of the plans. So was he and other Liberal Democrats not partly responsible for getting this wrong in the first place, not planning ahead to have the pavement installed to begin with? To me this appears he is taking credit for something his party were responsible for in the first place. You can’t take credit for clearing up your own mess, surely.
