Two benches are to be installed to thank the NHS and key workers for their hard work during the coronavirus pandemic, as well as remember those we have sadly lost.

The benches will be decorated with a rainbow and will be placed in South Oxhey and Carpenders Park.

Watford Rural parish councillor William Waite said he believed all those on the frontline deserve recognition for all they have done in what has been an unprecedented year.

Cllr Waite said: "The NHS has been terrific during this. Despite equipment shortages, they’ve risen to the challenge. Other key workers have kept our public transport system running and the utilities working and there are so many unsung heroes. I thought it would be good to mark their efforts in some way."

The parish council is still deciding exactly where to put the two benches.

Cllr Joan King, who chairs the council, said: "It was an excellent suggestion from William who also came up with the popular taxi voucher scheme.

"It is only right and proper that South Oxhey and the whole parish honours our key worker heroes.

"Sadly, the pandemic has claimed many lives locally and nationally. The benches will be a way of commemorating those tragically taken from us and will be a part of our history."

A family from Carpenders Park marked the one-year anniversary of the passing of Sara Trollope on April 10.

Mrs Trollope, a hospital matron at Hillingdon Hospital and mother-of-four, lived in Carpenders Park, and died at Watford General Hospital last year after testing positive for Covid-19.
