Police are trying to trace a car which drove off after being involved in a major crash on the M1 last week.

One car flipped onto its roof on the northbound off-slip at junction 5 during the multi-vehicle collision, which occurred at around 8.40am on Wednesday April, 21.

No one was seriously injured.

Traffic was brought to a standstill for around an hour following the crash as emergency services worked at the scene.

Hertfordshire Constabulary says four vehicles were involved, but one drove off before police arrived.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and information.

PC Katie Cunningham, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit said: “The vehicle which left the scene has been described as a white hatchback. Our enquiries to trace this vehicle and its driver are continuing at this time and we’re appealing for anyone who may be able to assist us to please come forward.

“Did you witness the incident or the events leading up to it? We’re particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have captured dash cam footage. If you were driving in the area around the time, please review any footage and contact us if you discover anything of note.”
