The RSPCA has launched a pet competition designed to showcase special bonds with their owners and raise money for local animal services.

The Home Pet Show, taking place from May 17 to June 14, will comprise six main categories – including best trick, golden oldie, and best rescue – with all funds going to the RSPCA’s frontline work.

A spokesperson for RSPCA’s Southridge Animal Centre in Potters Bar said: “The Home Pet Show is designed to showcase people’s animal friends and their special bond with them.

“Unlike other pet shows, the RSPCA Home Pet Show doesn’t focus on looks or breeding, but prefer to see happy contented animals, their natural behaviours and the special bond they have with each other and their human companions.

“The regional winners will be chosen on June 14 and 12 finalists (2 per class) will be chosen to take part in a live Zoom Home Pet Show on June 19 as part of Virtual One Fun Day, a day of animal-themed online fun.”

Local winners will win a rosette, certificate, £50 rover gift card and a handmade toy from one of our volunteers.

The live final will be hosted by RSPCA CEO Chris Sherwood and a special celebrity guest – where they will crown the 2021 Best in Show - the very best pet in the land.

Entrants are being encouraged to select Southridge Animal Centre as their local branch to help raise money for animals in its care – such as Trudie the “miracle cat”

The spokesperson added: “We love to hear all about your animal, your relationship with them, their history and your journey together so do take the time to tell us about yourself and your wonderful animal.

“We hope that you will join us in celebrating all of our animal friends and help us to raise funds for all of the animals in our care across RSPCA branches, centres and hospitals.”

The full categories list and details on how to enter will be released soon on Southridge’s website.
