Several people caught flouting the rules on wearing a seatbelt during the school run have been slapped with tickets.

Police in Watford spent Monday afternoon conducting vehicle checks in Derby Road after reports that parents and children have been seen not wearing seat belts on journeys to and from Central Primary School.

Officers stopped multiple vehicles whilst out on patrol and handed out three tickets in total.

Watford Police wrote on Facebook: “It is the law, you are responsible for ensuring that both you and your child passengers are wearing a seat belt. It does not matter how long your journey is, or how fast you are going.

“This is for the safety of you and you child passengers. Every day is a school day, so please teach your children to CLUNK, CLICK, EVERY TRIP!”

Police will continue to work in partnership with local schools to conduct spot checks to ensure the safety of motorists and children.
