Motorists using a major road to and from the M25 could be facing significant disruption amid plans to temporarily close a large part of it for roadworks.

A notice from Hertfordshire County Council in this week’s edition of the Watford Observer outlines the proposal to shut a section of Chorleywood Road because waterproofing works need to be carried out on the bridge crossing the motorway.

The planned closure will be from the junction with Chestnut Avenue north-westwards to the junction with Parkfield, a distance of approximately 520 metres.

If the order is made, it will come into force on June 14 and will be valid for 18 months. However, the closure will only be in place at times specified by road signs.

The notice also details other street closures planned in Watford and the surrounding area to enable roadworks to be carried out.

One order, which is proposed to take effect from June 17, will permit the following roads to be shut to vehicles, as and when directed by signs:

High Street, Rickmansworth, from its junction with the A412 Park Road/The Quadrant roundabout south-eastwards and south-westwards to its junction with Church Street, a distance of approximately 70m.

Talbot Road, Rickmansworth, from its junction with High Street south-eastwards and south-westwards for its entire length.

Wharf Lane, Rickmansworth, from its junction with Talbot Road south-eastwards for its entire length.

Berry Avenue, Watford, from its junction with Ash Tree Road north-westwards for a distance of approximately 341m.

The county council also intends to make an order, due to come into force on June 14, to prevent vehicles from using the A411 Hyde Road, Watford, from its westernmost junction with A411 Hempstead Road north-eastwards and south-eastwards for a distance of approximately 134m.

Another order for the temporary closure of part of Sergehill Lane, Abbots Langley, is set to take effect from June 17.

This will apply from the junction with High Street north-eastwards to its junction with St Albans Lane, a distance of approximately 151m.
